TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

On February 3, 2023, the PAMO-AMWS and DENR-PENRO Agusan del Sur conducted a tree planting activity at Barangay Mambalili, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur in coordination with the Barangay LGU of Mambalili headed by its Barangay Captain Hon. Jamy Vab D. Montes. This activity was participated by various stakeholders and partners including the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), Bantay Danao Association of Bunawan members, PENRO-LGU Agusan del Sur representative For. Zenevev Longaquit, MLGU Bunawan, CENROs Bunawan and Talacogon, DENR PENRO Agusan del Sur personnel and staff headed by Chief MSD Gerard M. Lopez and PABEU Chief For. Teodulo B. Awa, For the Future PH NGO, and the PAMO-AMWS headed by SuEMS Emmilie T. Ibonia. The program started with the singing of the National Anthem followed by an opening prayer lead by Mr. Restituto Valencia, Chairman of the Bantay Danao Association of Bunawan. A welcome remark was given by Hon. Jamy Vab D. Montes, Barangay Captain of Mabalili, his message highlights the quote “Nature can live without human, but human cannot live without nature”, he is also grateful that his barangay was chosen as the sites for the tree planting activity. This was followed by a message from For. Teodulo B. Awa representing the OIC, PENR Officer For. Asugan. In his message, he emphasizes the restoration of the natural characteristics of the wetlands. He likened the wetlands to the kidneys of humans, as wetlands are known to be kidneys of the earth that filters pollutants from the environment. PASu Emmilie T. Ibonia presented to the participants the history and overview of the World Wetlands Day. This was followed by For. Jenni Rose S. Cuago, PABEU Technical Staff on her demonstration of proper planting of the trees. Furthermore, a total of 82 planters (48 males; 34 females) with a total of 120 seedlings of Bangkal, Lanipao and Lambog species were planted adjacent to the Barangay Mambalili Tree Park along Simulao River.
