“World Wetlands Day” in Aggol National Park, Azerbaijan.

“World Wetlands Day” has been celebrated in Aggol National Park (Ramsar site), under the theme “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”. A scientific and informative event was held on February 2 with the participation of employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, officials of the Aghjabadi District Executive Power, representatives of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), as well as teachers and students of Baku State University. The participants were given detailed information about the importance of the day, later discussions were held on studying the status of rare and endangered bird species, monitoring their numbers, drawing attention to bird watching tourism, and the importance of protecting the wetland ecosystems. After an open-air scientific discussions on the importance of specially protected natural areas of Azerbaijan located on the migration route of migratory birds, the protection of rare and endangered bird species and the development of birdwatching tourism, the participants got acquainted with the wildlife along the “Greater Aggöl” route in the Aggol National Park, and also observed wetland birds on the bird watching routes.
