WWD 2018 event at Ansab Wetlands

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs celebrated the World Wetlands Day in cooperation with Haya Water Company, under the theme "Wetlands for Sustainable Urban Future", which was held at Al-Ansab Lakes. The ceremony was launched by Eng. Sulaiman bin Nasser Al-Akhzmi, Director General of Nature Conservation at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs and Eng. Hussain bin Hassan Al-Lawatia, Executive Director of Haya Water Company and a number of specialists from both sides. The event included several activities such as guided tours at the lakes and wild flora nurseries, bird watching, exhibition and interactive games for school children. Haya Water is a Government of the Sultanate of Oman owned entity and is empowered to build, own and operate the Muscat Wastewater Project in the Sultanate covering an area of 3,900 km2. This wastewater project is one of the biggest projects in the Sultanate and consists of building and operating wastewater networks, pumping stations, and sewage treatment plants. Al Ansab Wetland, an abode of over 290 species of birds in the heart of Muscat, provides a unique experience to birdwatchers and visitors. With the onset of winter, this wildlife habitat is expecting more visitors including tourists. The wetland is manmade that receives treated water from Al Ansab STP (Sewage Treatment Plant).
