Omusubi Festival
Saturday, February 3, 2024
Long ago, Aleutian Cackling Goose migrated from the Kuril Islands to spend the winter in the rice fields along the Nanakita River, which flows along the Pacific coast of the Tohoku region of Japan. About a century has passed since their disappearance. After overcoming the threat of extinction, they are beginning to return to this area. High school students at Sendai Ikuei Gakuen are engaged in activities to tell the story of the cackling goose's recovery to the local people. How would you like to learn about miraculous stories while eating rice balls "Omusubi" together using local rice that the cackling goose used to eat? The flyer (pdf files) for this event is presented in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese with the cooperation of Sendai Ikuei High School.
