The second-largest wetland of India is grandly celebrating World Wetlands Day on 31 January 2026. The coastal lagoon, Pulicat, is critically important for attracting monsoon clouds, particularly the Northeast Monsoon. The highlight of the day is the traditional catamaran race for the fishermen. This tropical dry evergreen region's coastal lagoon played a critical role in establishing modernity in India. The lagoons' cultural landscape still reflects the three thousand years of maritime heritage.
