MNS – KSNP Photography Expedition and World Wetland Day 2023 Webinar (Theme: Wetlands and Otters)
samedi 11 février 2023
The aim of this expedition is to gather images of wetland flora and fauna in the Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP). The data obtained will be used as a supportive document in MNS efforts of protecting KSNP and establishing KSNP as a RAMSAR site. Besides, participants will explore the different ecosystems in KSNP; the secondary forest, man-made lake system and mangrove forest. Those who are interested in taking a boat ride will be able to explore the Kuala Selangor River which is located adjacent and linked to the lake in the park. This webinar aims to emphasize and highlight why the biodiversity rich Kuala Selangor Nature Park as an important coastal mangrove forest, should be considered to be nominated as a possible new Ramsar site of Malaysia. In addition, it is also opportune to examine how this move could accord sufficient space and protection to the 3 otter species (Smooth-coated, Asian Small-clawed and Hairy-nosed Otters) of the park, which are both the former listed as Vulnerable and the latter as Endangered on the IUCN Red List and are both threatened by habitat loss, pollution of wetlands and poaching for the illegal wildlife trade.
