World Wetlands Day 2024 Celebration by NEWS at Nalban Bheri, East Kolkata Wetlands

This event was organised by Nature Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS) in collaboration with East Kolkata Wetlands Management Authority (EKWMA). Nearly 100 participants including 50 school students from Sukantanagar Vidyaniketan High School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, and volunteers, enthusiastically took part in several action-oriented activities like #birdwatching, #NatureWalk and cleaning and accumulation of solid wastes near the wetlands. Stocking of fish fingerlings in the bheries was also done as a part of the programme. Besides, the top 3 group of school students, who took part in the quiz competition organized by NEWS on "Wetlands and its biodiversity" at Sukantanagar Vidyaniketan High School on the 31st of January 2024, to mark the occasion of #WorldWetlandsDay were felicitated and awarded by the dignitaries present in the event The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. Tripti Sah, IFS and Chief Technical Officer of East Kolkata Wetlands Management Authority and Mrs. Chameli Naskar, Councillor of Ward No. 36 of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation along with the active participation of local fish growers of the nearby bheries. Engaging discussions were also done to explore the scopes and address the challenges associated with the wetland conservation.
