Restoring Vembanad-Kol Ramsar from Plastic Wastes
vendredi 2 février 2024
Vembanad-Kol Wetland, which is the 2nd largest Ramsar site of India, not only supports approx.20,000 migratory/residential bird species but also plays major role for the huge fishermen community who highly depend on the lake for living resources. But now a days studies showing this Ramsar site is getting highly affected by the plastic pollution. On the event of World Wetland Day 2024 Planatearth in partnership with HCL Tech Foundation and LSG conducted a 'One day plastic recovery drive from Vembanad-Kol Wetland' in Edakochi area. More than 50 fishermen joined this drive for recovering plastic from the lake. We collected 900 kgs of plastic in the event. This shows that it is high time to take actions for preventing this Ramsar site getting choked with plastic. Together we need to show more concern and come together for saving our restoring our nature.
